GREGORY CEMETERY

Gregory Cemetery is located in Clay Township Section 24 Township 75 Range 18, in the 1500 block of 245th Place, just north of Old Hwy. 92, 1 mile northwest of Tracy. The parcel number is 0058500500.

The cemetery is named after the Gregory families, who were early pioneers. Gravestones remaining are for Thomas Gregory, who died of smallpox in 1845, age 45; and for Sarah, 1848, age 5, daughter of Nathan and Mary Gregory. Nathan was the co-founder of Bellefountaine, a former town just over the Mahaska County line, a mile east of Tracy.

The derecho of August 2020 knocked down a large tree in Gregory Cemetery, landing over the fence, and into the ditch along the road. MCPCC members cleaned up the tree--and the cemetery as well while they were there.
