MONSTER CEMETERY

Monster Cemetery is in Knoxville Township Section 23 Township 76 Range 19. From the Coal Ridge Church at Hwy. S71 and Inwood Drive (7  miles northeast of Knoxville), drive southeast and south through a subdivision to the southwest end of Skyline Drive. Walk through a grassy parcel 60'x200' to a 40-acre plot owned by Central College (Pella), then south another 600 feet, then northeast 600 feet to this fenced and shady spot in the timber.

 

The parcel number is 0697500300.

 

There are about two dozen stones in this old site (also known as Old Coalport), plus a number of unmarked graves. Monster is an old Dutch name. A sign listing those buried there was placed in August 2016. The fence was completely removed and restored as well.

 

To enter this cemetery, you will have to cross over Central College property and a locked gate. Please contact Russ Benedict at (641) 628-4335 and he will let you in.
